Q:
What exactly is health coaching?
A: The short answer is that health
coaching is my answer to the question: "What would I do if
I were in your shoes?" Our work together starts by the two
of us sitting down together at your own kitchen table and just talking
through all the details of your health history. The more information
we can get on on the table, the easier it will be for us to figure
out what is at the root of your health problems.
At the end of our first session we'll discuss likely
problems in your lifestyle and agree on two or three concrete actions
you can take immediately to get started. We will record these agreements
on a tracking form which I will supply to you with. This form is
one of a number of custom designed materials that I provide you
with in a dedicated binder so that we can keep you accountable to
make sure the changes happen.
Between sessions I will be analyzing the information
you've given me and scouring the scientific literature for clues
to the root and causes of your health problems. I'll also be visiting
the Oregon Health Science University for additional materials as
necessary - and in general moving heaven and earth to find the RIGHT
solution to your specific health issues.
Q: How often
do we meet?
A: For most
people, one session every 2 weeks is about right in the beginning.
Then, depending on your goals we can continue this schedule, or
start to space the sessions out farther as you gain knowledge and
independence.
Q: Where do we meet?
A: We meet in your own home
for both health coaching and in-home personal exercise training.
Q: Can we meet at my own gym?
A: It depends on your gym's policy.
I always work completely independently from any other organization
so that my advice is never influenced by corporate policy or product sales. Most gyms will not allow me to
work in this way in their facility. I will not train you in these
gyms.
On the other hand, if you belong to a gym which allows outside experts to come in and work with you independently, as many homeowner athletic facilities do, I would be happy to work with you in this way. I simply will not work in any facility in which I cannot be completely honest with you about what best serves your needs.
Q: How much do your services cost?
A: Single sessions are $120, but
if you're serious about commiting to changing your health and fitness
for the better I can offer you 4 sessions for $432, 8 sessions for
$768, or 20 sessions for $1,680. That's 10%, 20%, or 30% off, respectively.
Q:
Do you accept credit cards?
A: Yes, I accept Visa, MasterCard
and Discover.
Q:
Can you work by phone?
A: Yes I can. This works well for
health coaching. For personal training it can get a bit dicey. However,
we can use the telephone to schedule 30 minute check-ups in between
our regular in-person training sessions. Because I offer a discount for phone appointments, this can be an economical and effective
option to keep you accountable and on track.
